Under a new proposal by the Conservatives party larger, cider and “alcopops” will be hit with higher taxes. It is said that the extra money will be used to fund price cuts in low-alcohol beers and ciders.

Spirits, wines , 90% of beer / cider which includes popular names such as Carlin, Guiness and Stella will not be affected.

Shadow Chancellor George Osborne said that “We believe binge drinking should not be used as an excuse for yet more stealth taxes.” So the government is trying to tackle the problem of an increase in binge drinking however a Treasury spokeswoman said that the sales of drinks such as alcopops were declining. Therefore if the sales are decreasing why is there a need to increase taxes?

To conclude, all those kids who hang about on street corners and outside shops drinking these things to get wasted are going to be very confused now.
