Looking out of the window you’d think we’re still in winter at the moment. When summer does eventually arrive it may get as very hot just as it did for a few days last year. Temperatures increased to around 30 degrees C!

That will be the time at which you will consider an air conditioning unit. Some tips to help you with your purchase:

• When considering a unit more does not mean better. Base the size of the unit on the size of the actual room, the number of windows etc. Something too big will be doing a lot of unnecessary work and using up more electricity.

• Look at the energy efficiency ratio as it should be 11 or higher. The more efficient the unit is higher in cost but the electricity bills are lower.

• Paint your house bright colours as darker colours tend to absorb more heat.
• Buy a decent unit at a decent cost by following the link above.
