Refinery causing oil price boom
Starting 26th April there was a 2 day strike at the Grangemouth refinery in Scotland over pensions . BP had to shutdown one of the main pipelines (located in the North Sea) which provides a third of the UK’s output. Both had raised fears about fuel shortages.
Many people in Scotland started panic buying fuel on Friday amid fears of empty petrol pumps however the queues died down as the pumps started to go dry.
As the staff at Grangemouth are ready to start work again on Tuesday 29th April it is expected that the refinery will not return to full capacity for many weeks.
The strike has cost 700,000 barrels of oil a day.The price per barrel has risen to almost $120 and above all our petrol costs are increasing. The cost per liter of petrol is high enough already and we could do without causing havoc in the market.
I would like to know how many people that work for Grangemouth drive to work and whether they realise how bad the situation is already.
