Microsoft fined by Eu… again.

After a failure to comply with a ruling in 2004 for abusing their dominant market position Microsoft has been fined a record £680.9m.

The ruling stated that the software giant was guilty of holding back vital code to other software developers.

It is the first company in 50 years to be fined for a “failure to comply with an antitrust decision” and seems to be fined every 2 years since 2004.

The official work from Microsoft was, “as we demonstrated last week with our new interoperability principles and specific actions to increase the openness of our products, we are focusing on steps that will improve things for the future”.

Rivals are keen to push aside Microsoft’s media player and web browser in order to market their own software. When compare to its value of approximately £170bn could this minor fine really cause the firm any harm?
